ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Sabrina!
My work sits at the intersection of landscape architecture, urban design, design research, culture and ecological studies, and communications. Through the projects I'm involved in, I combine design thinking, research, writing, visualization, and storytelling.
Since graduating, I've worked primarily as a freelance designer, collaborating with clients ranging from research and design studios to design firms and professional organizations – most recently, the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects. My work spans landscape design and visualization generally, but also includes publication and editorial work, graphic design, exhibit graphics, communications consulting, and digital media. I've had the opportunity to contribute to projects of all scales, from long-term design research initiatives to planning, policy, and landscape architecture projects, as well as one-off creative commissions, workshops, and materials that support knowledge exchange and professional development.
This summer, I joined Nelson Byrd Woltz (NBW) Landscape Architects in New York as their Landscape Architecture Intern, developing written and graphic materials that support the firm's landscape architecture projects. During my internship, my work has focused primarily on projects related to interpretive design, wayfinding, and environmental graphics. I'm also providing graphic and editorial support for publications, marketing, award submissions, client-facing materials, and other media that help communicate project stories, design processes, and design intent.
Prior to NBW, while continuing my freelance practice, I worked as Lab Manager and Director of Communications at Toronto Metropolitan University's (TMU) Ecological Design Lab (EDL), leading design research projects focused on ecological design, sustainable urban development, climate resilience, and biodiversity recovery. I continue to collaborate with the EDL and its Director, Prof. Nina-Marie Lister on an ongoing basis. During my undergraduate degree, I also worked as a research assistant with TMU's DiverCity Lab, contributing to projects that examined planning policies and practices centered on equity and inclusion to inform more culturally responsive design strategies.
At the core of my work is a passion for ecological restoration, cultural landscapes, and placemaking, and for design in fostering meaningful relationships between people, place, and nature. Outside of work, my love for cities, nature, and culture fuels my passion for travel, food, and photography to document the places and experiences that inspire me. I also have an overarching interest in health and wellness, and how everyday interactions with nature can support overall well-being. I enjoy exploring the intersection of analog and digital design techniques and draw inspiration from disciplines beyond landscape architecture, including film, fashion, interior design, and pop culture.
I hold a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning, awarded with distinction, from Toronto Metropolitan University.
